Zbojník a Gašparko

A co-production project with the Czech Theatre Drak on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.

Czechoslovakia dissolved 30 years ago. However, the end of the common state did not mean the end of the proximity of the two nations; quite the opposite. Crossing the state border, we do not feel like we are in a foreign land, and we gladly refer to Czechs as brothers. From this warm friendship arose an exceptional co-production performance in collaboration with the Theatre Drak from Hradec Králové. On stage, Czech and Slovak actors meet with the aim of creating a true and genuine, original Czechoslovak performance. But where to start? Who represents our specific national natures and how to unite them into a single whole? Brave Jánošík comes to the aid for the Slovak side, while the talkative Gašparko represents the Czech side. The combination of these two incompatible characters leads to experiences in the high Slovak mountains and in the romantic Czech groves. But where is the whole story heading? Does it meet the expectations and ideas of one side or the other? The puppet-drama performance serves as a metaphor for living in one entity. Can we make compromises in the interest of common goals? But what are we actually like? And how do we perceive others? Is there even such a thing as national character?
