Object theatre and concert about the life of Karel Čapek.

The performance plays with a dog's perspective on space, sounds, people, and society. A miniature about the life of a puppy, as seen by Čapek, and also about the canine perspective as understood by Solce. For Dášenka, a dog's life is when someone steps on her tail; in the times before World War II, it was a dog's life for those who stood against the growing power of ideology. An American president as a teddy bear, the Holocaust wrapped in a tragicomic kangaroo. Object theatre is enhanced by the improvised creation of music from random sounds. The voice of Čapek's friend Ján Masaryk, who relays messages from exile, intertwines with Nazi mass media stimuli. One becomes a witness to the contrast between a lyrical attitude towards the small and naive and the scream of the media that repeatedly imposes its dogmas in the name of truth. From a dog's perspective, human life is a tragedy that can only be resolved by one healer - Death.

We present this performance with the support of the city of KOPER, Slovenia.

Psí život is presented in the Štúdia space on the 2nd floor of BBD with a limited number of seats without designated seating.

Matija Solce 

A musician, puppeteer, actor, and director, professor, festival organizer, and activist. In his work, he closely intertwines music and theatre, and therefore his concerts often transform into interactive theatre performances, or his puppet shows evolve into musical compositions. With an accordion and a suitcase full of puppets, he has traveled the world and experienced extreme places such as prisons, ashrams, private bedrooms, and large halls of international festivals. The number of projects, performances, festivals, and awards he has won is beyond counting. He has a unique authorial expression straddling tradition and modernity, in which the puppetry tradition is highlighted by surprisingly fresh transformations with a touch of popular culture.
