Reštaurovanie kamennej krásy | O architektúre osobne (s) Tomášom Kucmanom

6 May 2025
Tuesday • 19:00
Trnava
Kultúrne centrum Malý Berlín

The first discussion about architecture this year will focus on the ongoing renovations in Trnava. We will primarily concentrate on the reconstruction of the Basilica of St. Nicholas with restorer Tomáš Kucman, as well as the undiscovered world of stone gargoyles and Gothic windows.

The Basilica of St. Nicholas (or the Rough Church) is known for having undergone several construction changes and modifications. Since 2006, the first dehumidification work has been carried out, as well as comprehensive reconstructions of the roofs of the towers and bells. From 2023, a comprehensive reconstruction of the facades is underway, which aims to present the results of long-term research as accurately as possible. Our guest, Tomáš Kucman, is involved in the research both restoratively and craft-wise. We will discuss not only the basilica but also other renovations and the maintenance of stone sculptures in Trnava and its surroundings.
