Raster: Premena postindustriálnej Ostravy

Under the header RASTER, we present lectures dedicated to visual art. The instructor is artist and educator Roman Gajdoš, who invites guests to discuss the intentions, effects, and forms of visual art.

For the December RASTER, guests invited are Tereza Čapandová, co-founder of the GDM Contemporary gallery, a member of the Department of Art Education at the University of Ostrava, and Tomáš Koudela, curator, head of the Center for Visual Studies, and vice-dean for external and internal communication and creative activities at the Faculty of Education at the University of Ostrava.

The Ostrava region is undergoing one of the most dynamic transformations in Central Europe – its face, identity, and energy are changing from a post-industrial past to new cultural, community, and creative directions.

We will jointly discuss how a city once defined by coal and metallurgy connects with art, new forms of urban life, and where Ostrava might progress further.

Using examples such as the transformation of the Hlubiny mine, Vítkovice Ironworks, or workers' colonies, we will showcase how spaces with an industrial past are becoming places of cultural energy, encounters, and shared memory.
