Intersections with Dominika Sakmárová and Branislav Moťovský

We are back!
In 2025, we continue to provide a space for mutual understanding and connection. We kick off the spring series of the talk show Intersections with sinologist and writer Dominika Sakmárová and psychiatrist and psychotherapist from Trenčín, Branislav Moťovský. Will we find #intersections in these seemingly different topics?

The event will be accompanied by musical guest Washo – a talented musician from Trenčín.

Dominika Sakmárová hails from Spišské Podhradie, studied sinology, and is a successful writer. She is dedicated to spreading knowledge about Chinese and Korean culture through books, discussions, and lectures. She draws her experiences and insights from her stays in Taiwan, China, and South Korea. Her books Cat Fur and a Camel by the Great Wall, Korean Dumplings, and Cat-headed Eagle draw inspiration from the Far East. However, in her book White City, published at the end of 2024, she returns to Spiš and tells us magical stories from her homeland. Dominika is also involved in Slovak folklore, leads a folklore group, and is a passionate collector of traditional costumes.

Branislav Moťovský is a Slovak psychiatrist, somnologist, and psychotherapist from Trenčín. He studied at the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Martin. Until 2021, he led the sleep laboratory at the psychiatric clinic of Trenčín University Hospital, which is currently suspended but will resume operations in autumn 2025. Branislav Moťovský currently serves as the head and chief physician of the Psychiatric Clinic of Trenčín University Hospital. In his practice, he emphasizes understanding and supporting people suffering from mental disorders and actively participates in raising awareness to combat the stigmatization of mental health. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, playing guitar in a band, and spending time with his family and dog.

Ivan Ježík is a co-author and host of Intersections and the podcast Conversations Choices. He returned to his hometown of Trenčín with the Voices team, where he has been organizing various cultural and educational activities for several years. He cares about ensuring a good quality of life here and that young people want to return.

Intersections is an entertaining talk show that creates space for mutual understanding and connection. Invited guests are exceptional individuals from the fields of culture, science, education, business, sports, and other areas of our lives. They share their personal stories and experiences with the audience that have led them to independence, creativity, and responsibility in an informal setting.

The activities of Voices in Hviezda are supported by the ZSE Foundation.
