The Kafkaesque process of reconstructing the Slovak National Gallery lasted more than ten years. For too long, it seemed that the light at the end of the tunnel and the completion of the building would remain out of reach. Throughout those years, the gallery director Alexandra, along with her father, the architect of the reconstruction, and her colleagues fought to fulfill the dream of the Slovak society of having a modern cultural institution. A crazy roller coaster full of political pitfalls, delayed permits, and struggles with builders brought Alexander to doubt several times whether her efforts were even worth it.
