The film tells the story of fifteen-year-old Maria (Mara), who dreams of becoming a pilot and escaping village life. But when their valley – home to a Rusyn family – is set to be flooded for the construction of the Starina reservoir, she and her father Alexander must come to terms with the loss of their home, traditions, and family heritage. They dream of freedom, but must face hard decisions and the pain of separation.
