KKC Hviezda
Physicist and science popularizer Samuel Kováčik, creator of the Vedátor project, is coming to the Book Galaxy at KKC Hviezda with his new book Limits of Knowledge: The Journey There and Beyond.
We invite you to an evening full of interesting perspectives on the world, inspiring thoughts, and the search for the boundaries of human knowledge.
Curiosity and the desire to explore are in our genes. That is why our ancestors ventured across deserts, mountains, and seas. We want to know what atoms are made of, how a radio works, when the Sun will extinguish. Some are more curious than others. Scientists are people who have dedicated their entire lives to curiosity and strive to approach it systematically and responsibly.
They want to maximize the chances of finding the right answers to the questions that intrigue them. This book is about knowledge. About theories, about how knowledge is created, and what it represents for us. We have created large telescopes, particle accelerators stretching for dozens of kilometers, and mapped the human genome. We are building something that surpasses us and is connected to our deep essence – through the universe, we gaze upon ourselves.
Samuel Kováčik was not fascinated by the universe from a young age, but when it happened, it came fully. The universe captured his attention with its strangeness – black holes, quantum physics, or the structure of time and space. He also focuses on the quantum structure of space in his research, from theoretical mathematical foundations to possible observations and phenomena. In addition, he promotes science. He founded the Vedátor project, hosts the Vedátorský podcast, and has written books Ordinary Miracles, Pieces of Reality, Limits of Knowledge, and Conversations about the Universe. For his popularization activities, he became a finalist in the Falling Walls Lab in Berlin, was nominated for the Kaliga prize, and received the Award for Science and Technology 2021 in the category of science popularization.
