Ivan Stodola - Karol Rédli: Čaj u pána senátora

The classic Slovak satirical comedy Tea with Mr. Senator was created a century ago in the times of young democracy. Ivan Stodola took a "shot" at all those who felt "called" to enter politics but failed intellectually and morally. In the adaptation by director Karol Rédli, we suddenly feel that we have not changed that much in those 100 years.

In the 1920s, when the play was written, it portrayed the then political and social practices of politicians from the budding democracy in the independent history of the First Czechoslovak Republic. At that time, many ordinary people could enter politics, as well as individuals with questionable social behavior, extreme views, clear career ambitions, easily influenced political voices, those who barely fought for the people, or "protectors" of the Slovak nation. All of them pretended to be solidary people, declaring that they were one family, a hundred percent democrats, and that they would not let anyone take our Slovakia. Czechoslovakia is now in the past, and we live in an independent Slovak Republic. At the time of the production, it is the year 2024, and we are different... Or are we?
