Ivan Stodola - Karol Rédli: Čaj u pána senátora

A classic Slovak satirical comedy Tea with Mr. Senator was created a century ago during the times of young democracy. Ivan Stodola took "aim" at all those who felt "called" to enter politics but failed intellectually and morally. In the adaptation by director Karol Rédli, we suddenly feel that we haven't changed that much in these 100 years.

In the 1920s, when the play was written, it depicted the political and social practices of politicians from the emerging democracy of the first Czechoslovak Republic. At that time, even common people could enter politics, as well as those with questionable social behavior, extreme opinions, a clear career direction, an influenceable political voice, those who hardly fought for the people, or "protectors" of the Slovak nation. They all appeared as solidarity people, claiming they were one family, 100% democrats, and that they would not let anyone take away our Slovakia. Czechoslovakia is now a thing of the past, and we live in an independent Slovak Republic. As the production year is 2024, we are different... Or are we?
