The Gympelrock music festival, known for its diversity and family atmosphere, has a long-standing tradition. For 37 years, it has been organized by former and current students of Ľudovít Štúr Gymnasium, who strive to create a space for both emerging and more established bands to gain visibility. The festival focuses not only on music. This year, visitors can look forward to interesting discussions, the creations of independent poets from Divotvorba, and works from students of the Secondary School of Art in Trenčín.

Pell-Mell 59

Operating under its current name since 2007, the band's fans chose the name Pell-Mell, which translates to “hit or miss,” and they added the number 59 to show they can make decisions too. Over the years, some members have changed, they have performed numerous concerts, released three albums, and created several music videos. As they themselves say: "We love music, we enjoy creating it, and we most love presenting it live."

Random Choices

Random Choices is a rock band infused with funk and pop influences, characterized by their energetic performances. They have played many concerts in their hometown of Trenčín and the surrounding area, as well as in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Their music can be heard on Radio Slovakia, Radio Devín, and others. Their latest EP is titled Words and Vibrations.

THE BALLET OF CZECHOSLOVAK RADIO

This is a trans-European association of anonymous artists that must be seen live, because those who haven't seen it won't believe it, and those who have seen it won't forget: "You are here for us - not the other way around!"

Meowlau x Val

Meowlau x Val is a drum and bass & pop project that shot to fame on the Slovak scene in 2022 with their debut EP Nevermind. The female duo Meowlau (Laura Jašková) and Val (Valentina Vlková) is complemented live by drummer and live drum-and-bass beat master Martin Miklis. The music of this group is full of strong atmospheres, and combined with energetic beats and English lyrics, it draws listeners into the narrative, making them the most essential part of the whole. Their music and performances can be described in two words: energy and sincerity. At the end of 2023, they released the EP Daydream, with plans to hit the Czech-Slovak tour in February 2024.

CHVM

It was September 1980. Socialism was raging outside, and a band was born in a basement. A few enthusiasts from the then J.A. Gagarin Gymnasium in Trenčín met every Wednesday after school. In 1981, they held their first official big concert, which was also the first edition of the Gympelrock festival. CHVM, then still known as Yellow Dodo and co., ran into some troubles but didn't let that stop them. They stood firm in their musical creation and have not stopped playing for over 40 years, recording more than 40 albums and around 200 songs, and they were behind the discovery of bands like Bez ladu a skladu and others.

Tibor Večeřa

Tibor is the first performer from our open call. A young singer-songwriter with an interesting voice and emotional delivery, he also engages in various outdoor sports besides music. I definitely wouldn't want to miss his concert on our acoustic stage.

FAYE

Singer FAYE is a talented young girl with great musical sensitivity. She launched her career in 2020 in collaboration with producer FXTR and the Canadian label UNDERHER. They released several interesting songs, including HERO and FINALLY. In 2023, she created the single Stranger in collaboration with producer Michal Eichler, who performs under the name Mifes. The recording was made at the professional studio Beyond Music Studio in Nitra, where Tom Löbb and Martin Zaujec handled the post-production.

ŠMOX

The band ŠMOX has long been representative of the Trenčín alternative scene, presenting a light-hearted form with elements of comedy rock and characteristic quirky lyrics. They have released 2 CDs to date and as a band, most of whose members are graduates of GĽŠTN, have performed at Gympelrock multiple times.

Fraktúra

Fraktúra has been around for a long time, but their concerts are short because they have been practicing for a long time through Krist... oh, that's something else... through taste and endurance, which lasts inversely proportionate to the shortness. After releasing their debut album "Stress, Groggy & Neurol," they went silent due to treatment in Vyšné Hágy. They were expelled after a quarrel with retirees for their inability to bear a loss in seven from the cross. After the ebb of lethargic feelings from this incident, they began creating new songs and are looking forward to you!

PS: Don't leave them unattended at the bar before the concert, and don't take photos after the concert, because it steals the soul.

Laura Magičová

Laura Magičová is a pianist, singer, but mainly a creator and artist who has the ambition to continue making music in genres she enjoys discovering based on her diverse musical taste. Her aesthetic is built on her singing performance, which has elements of neo-soul set against a backdrop of lethargic melancholy with a hint of lo-fi aesthetics. At GR, she will perform with Michal Svorada, with whom she creates not only music but also a fantastic musical duo. Laura Magičová: an 18-year-old creator who does not fixate on genres - quite the opposite.

Closed Company

Closed Company was formed in the autumn of 1991 in Trenčín as a punk association of friends from the housing estate. After five years of existence and three demos, we took a 20-year break to return full force with new ideas and opinions. Currently, we play punk, jazz, romantic, and strongly erotic songs.

Volume

The local rock group Volume has been on the scene for 10 years and will release a new single Life at the end of April to celebrate this occasion, which will have its live premiere right here at Gympelrock.

Divotvorba

Divotvorba is a collective of street literati. In its abstraction, it materializes the possibility to either download or read poetry and prose. For everyone. Come and be amazed and hear the authorial literature of promising writers directly from them until you are covered like dust - slowly, but it happens!

Shakal

The rapper ZONAwwr from Holíč began regularly creating and releasing again last year after a long break, which resulted in several singles and the album "Resume." Shortly afterward, he joined forces with Shakal, who had a very productive 2023 (album "Small Talk" and a series of singles), and they created a 5-track summer EP "Short Story." The guys clicked and decided to do joint concerts as well. You can look forward to dancehall, rap, melodic drill, sung choruses, and a dynamic live show!

Momentary francis

Momentary francis is a band from Trenčín and the surrounding area that was formed in the summer of 2022. No one has ever seen Francis with their own eyes, but it is said that all four members - Šimon, Paťo, Marek, and Jakub know him personally. Together, they create diverse songs that could presumably be categorized into Slovak alt. rock. Ten of them made it onto the debut album titled 'for Magda,' which they managed to release in August 2023, but they are still working on new material, including their latest single 'In Narrow Streets.'

Chasing Tears

Chasing Tears is a Trenčín metal band that blends elements of thrash, death, and groove metal with everything sonically interesting. For two years behind closed doors, they honed the songs for their EP titled Conquer the World, which was released in April 2024. As singer Pyšta screams in the title track: "Stop putting down the fire in me..." It will be fire. Be prepared.

Richard Mozolák

You might have met Richard at Gympelrock in 2019 as the singer of the band NighTeen SevenTies. Now, he is a preschool teacher who has understood that music should be played mainly for joy. He plays music that entertains those around him, but most importantly, music that entertains himself. So what can you expect? Just an ordinary guy with a guitar and lyrics that may remind you of how colorful life can be.

Matúš Oravec and Charms Kids

The international music project Charms Kids will perform with vocalist Matúš Oravec. They will play fleeting melancholic songs defined by intimacy and colorfulness. Compositions on the orb of love – dark, radiant, transient, and endless. The remaining members of the band have started a new phase of the formation made up of musicians from Žilina and Uzhhorod and currently play in the lineup of bass-guitar-drums. Their joint play is a way of healing depression, preventing social dementia, and unavoidable extinction. Matúš's energy has inspiringly resuscitated the frail band, and after a few joint concerts, he became the main vocalist and songwriter. His intimate original songs are accompanied by an unusually tuned acoustic guitar. Other songs are spontaneously created during joint meetings. They draw on the previous poetics of the Charms Kids project (Charms' kids) that extends back to the 90s.

MF

MF is a band based in Nové Mesto nad Váhom. They have been on the Slovak scene since 2002 and have performed numerous concerts in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. During this time, the band’s lineup has changed, and they temporarily ceased active performance. In 2016, a new phase of the band began with a new lineup and new songs.

Cherry Street

The band from Trenčín's Cherry Street, born from the quiet tones of a garage ensemble, has evolved into an energetic punk-rock force that conquers the hearts of fans across Slovakia. Gympelrock, a festival that serves as a launchpad for many young talents, became the fateful stage where they first introduced themselves to the public in 2016. Gympelrock is not just about famous names filling the halls, but also about those who, with the flame in their hearts and a guitar in hand, walk the road toward their dreams. The band from Cherry Street embodies this idea. They are proof that with perseverance, talent, and a pinch of luck, even small garage bands can become great musical stars.
