Édouard Louis: Aký význam má literatúra? | Literárne rendez-vous

How does literature relate to what we are experiencing today, whether in society or within ourselves? Do you enjoy books, conversations, and peaceful evenings in pleasant company? Come to the second meeting dedicated to literature.

This time we will focus on the work of contemporary French author Édouard Louis, who addresses social issues and brings personal yet universal testimonies about the present. His texts connect politics and everyday life, showing how social themes can reflect in our lives. He views literature as a space for rebellion and confrontation - otherwise, what is its purpose? Moreover, his literature of confrontation gives a voice to those who do not have one or whose voices are often suppressed.

The evening will once again be guided by Terézia Guimard and Adam Škrovan.

Literary rendezvous

is a series of informal meetings about books and topics that literature opens up within us. Each meeting revolves around a single theme and a work of world literature. It involves a brief presentation of the author and the book, reading excerpts, and an open discussion in a pleasant atmosphere.

You do not need to have read the book. Excerpts will be provided to each participant on the spot.

Terézia Guimard

Terézia Guimard is a researcher at the Institute of World Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. She focuses on research in French literature. In 2025, she completed her studies by defending her dissertation on Urban and Social Space of Paris in the Novels of the Second Half of the 19th Century (the works of Émile Zola).

Adam Škrovan

Adam Škrovan is a PhD student at the Institute of World Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He focuses on research in contemporary Anglophone literature. In his dissertation titled Bioethics and Biopolitics as Part of the Interpretive Platform of Posthumanism, he focuses on dystopian novels.
