Divadlo na TrakOch: “Večerníček*“

Fairytales show us the world as it should be since childhood. Or at least as we wish it to be. In our Evening Show*, this magical world collides with the reality of today. And such fairytales are certainly not for children anymore.

Once upon a time... there was a small amateur theater group that got a chance to perform on the stages of the Slovak National Theatre. However, the condition of the competition is that the performance should bear a national character and draw from traditional values. Thus, a collection of surprisingly relevant fairytales emerges, playing with traditional folk templates.

Little Red Riding Hood will seamlessly take over the plotline of a completely different fairytale; Hansel and Gretel, wandering helplessly through the forest, will find something they perhaps never wanted to find, and in the fairytale About the Three-Headed Dragon, the dark symbol transforms into a tool of power and manipulation in a land where the kingdom is just the illusion of the king himself and a pious wish of the people.

The group balances between absurdity and truth, between creative freedom and self-censorship. In short interludes between the individual fairytales, it gives the audience a glimpse into the invisible world of creation, humorously and reflectively revealing its own backstage – creative, chaotic, and sincere.

The Evening Show* arose from joys and sorrows of reality, from fatigue and from the belief that theater has still something to say.

Perhaps our stories do not end with the victory of good over evil, but deep in our hearts, we still believe in miracles.
