Bratislavské bábkové divadlo: „POPOLVÁR“

We will celebrate World Puppet Theater Day with a meeting featuring a story that has belonged to our culture for generations. Puppet theater opens the world of fantasy, develops imagination, and speaks about important values in a language that is close to both children and adults.

Bratislava Puppet Theater has accepted the invitation and, on the occasion of World Puppet Theater Day, will come to Rača with the production Popolvár - an adventurous puppet classic inspired by the fairy tales of Pavol Dobšinský about a hidden hero, belief in oneself, and the strength that can arise even where it is least expected. Unconventionally, with humor and bravery, they combined two versions of this story: Popolvár the ugly face and Popolvár the greatest in the world.

Popolvár? The ugly duckling among people. And among Slovaks. Dobšinský's cult story about a dirty lazybones and his transformation into the "greatest in the world." How is it possible that a family's shame becomes a star of the land that saves the princess even from a black magician and his limitless power? Popolvár is a mystery. Or maybe not? Perhaps he just didn't believe in himself, and no one believed in him. An adventurous puppet performance about the perspective on oneself as well as on others, about self-confidence, pride, and distorted mirrors.
