Tradition and innovation meet in this pop feminist film about a quartet of musical outcasts. It is the end of the 18th century and in a crumbling Catholic music institution for girls, a shy, timid young lady named Teresa (mockingly dubbed “The Mute”) works as a maid. While excited talks of the impending visit of the new Pope Pius VII spread through the institute's hallways and the local maestro struggles with a new composition for the orchestra, Teresa makes a major discovery in the form of a piano that will change the course of her life and the lives of her peers. Debut director Margherita Vicario, with her experience in original music, has created an energetic, unpretentious musical pulsating with remixed Vivaldi rhythms that charts a boldly retold lost history of female composers and artists. GLORIA!, awarded at the Italian Golden Globes for Best Original Music and Best Debut, will make you clap and sway to catchy melodies.
